A FRESHLY-formed jazz quartet with some familiar faces to many is set to perform in Tenby’s Caffe Vista this month as part of their latest instalment in the 'Up-Close and Personal' series.

Leading from the front will be multi-award winning trumpeter (BBC British Jazz Awards) Steve Waterman. Whether national or international, Steve can boast huge respect within the jazz world as a musician, composer and educator. The latter of which can be linked to his teaching of jazz trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity College of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music and the Welsh College of Music and Drama. If such a repertoire is not enough already, Steve has also co-authored the highly acclaimed “The Jazz Method For Trumpet”.

In the words of One Note Forever: “Waterman is a joy to watch. He wrestles with his instrument, all high-stepping fingers and furrowed brows and he comes out on top every time."

Also making up the quartet will be Dan Messore, Pete Komor and Gethin Jones.

Dan has been described as a young and exciting guitarist, with Peter Quinn of Jazzwise claiming that he is “a formidable improviser with an assured sense of narrative ebb and flow”.

Rather fittingly, Pete has just graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama; one of Steve’s many workplaces. His role in the quartet is on the upright bass.

And finally, completing the quartet will be Gethin, who has been credited as one of the best jazz drummers to come out of Wales.

Collectively, the four will be playing a mixture of contemporary jazz, originals and classics.

The event will be held on Sunday, July 27, and doors open at 7pm, with the performance beginning at 8.30pm sharp. To book tickets you can phone Caffe Vista on 01834 849636. Tickets are £12.50.
