A POWERFUL musical about the First World War will be performed at the Bishop’s Palace in St Davids as part of the city’s Drama Festival.

‘Oh, What a Lovely War!’ was first produced by Theatre Workshop in 1963, with Joan Littlewood doing much of the development of Charles Chilton’s idea.

This latest performance will be by the popular Birmingham drama company Festival Arts, which returns to Pembrokeshire for a 46th summer season.

The musical can be seen at Bishop’s Palace at 8pm on Tuesday, August 5, Wednesday, August 6 and Saturday, August 9 and every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday through to festival’s end on August 21.

The children’s play is Toad of Toad Hall, and it will be staged in Mathry Community Hall at 7.30 pm on Thursday, August 7 and Friday, August 8, and thereafter on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until August 20.

On the two Sunday nights the festival will be presenting its annual patchwork of poetry and prose in the Palace vaults.

This year’s compilation by director Jenny Baines is called ‘In the Money’ and the company will be joined by guest reader Robert Nisbet.
