AS IT nears its 10th birthday, West Wales Rock'n'Roll Club continues its commitments to great music and raising money for good causes.

In August local band The Mustangs pulled in the crowds, helping raise more than £350 for Adam's Bucketful of Hope.

This month's charity dance is a Big Pink Ball in aid of Breast Cancer Care and takes place on Friday, October 17, at Whitland Dairy Club.

Dancers are asked to wear something pink - even if it is just a hat.

Admission is just £5, paid on the door, and for that you get 50s hits, accompanied by videos of greats such as Bill Haley, Chuck Berry and Little Richard projected onto the big screen.

For those who want to learn how to jive, absolute beginners - including youngsters - are invited to Whitland Memorial Hall on any Monday night at 7pm.

There is a small charge of £3/person to cover the cost of the hall, and tea and coffee are included in the price.

As part of its aim to foster links with local bands and performers, the club is holding a free, open session with Rick Berry and The Retrospex on Monday, October 27, at The Snooty Fox, Martletwy, between 7pm and 10pm.

Come along and enjoy watching the band rehearse some classic jive tunes. There is a dance floor and a bar so feel free to stretch your legs.

And one of the highlights of the year will take place at Whitland Dairy Club on Friday, November 21, when the enigmatic Earl Jackson will be sure to deliver a high-octane set, featuring Chuck Berry classics and retro R'n'B numbers, backed by his fantastic band.

Tickets, £8, are available now, or £10 on the door.
