BAND PROFILE:

BENEATH THE REEF

BENEATH the Reef is a seven piece ska/punk band whose members hail from the Milford/Haverfordwest areas.

Their shows are always tight, funky, melodic, exciting, and at the end of the evening there’s never a dry sock in the house. Their set, full of summery vibes and singalong choruses, is entirely self-penned though they draw their influences from as far back as the original ‘60s ska explosion that featured the likes of Desmond Dekker and Prince Buster through to the late ‘70s/early ‘80s revival that launched the careers of the Specials and Madness, right up to recent happening ska bands such as Sublime.

The band has been together for four years but rarely play their home county despite having headlined at the prestigious Boom Town Festival in Hampshire last year. And that’s not likely to change any time soon as they have recently departed on a 39 date tour of the UK and Europe to tie in with the release of their marvellous new EP ‘Bring the A Game’ (recorded at Studio Owz in Tiers Cross) which is available as a hard copy or download, with accompanying video on YouTube.

Drummer Jack Beddis (a member of Pembrokeshire’s legendary musical Beddis family and who also plays with Jodie Marie, Valleyers et al) told me “Beneath the Reef is the band I most enjoy playing with and we would really love to play more often in our home area.”

Its not all doom and gloom for local music lovers as Beneath the Reef end their tour with a performance at Charlie’s Bar, Milford Haven on Saturday, March 28.

Until then, check the band out through their Facebook page. And if any local promoters want to cram seven likeable fellas playing irresistible dance music onto their stage, then Beneath the Reef can be contacted at btreef@gmail.com.
