THE Welsh Chamber Orchestra will be making a welcome return to Rhosygilwen this weekend.

The orchestra will be playing a varied programme on Sunday, August 2, which includes some favourites from the chamber music repertoire and a selection of Shakespearean sonnets sung by Welsh baritone Jeremy Huw Williams.

The WCO programme features Tchaikovsky’s famous Serenade for Strings and a selection of Romanian folk dances arranged by Bartok. The four Shakespeare sonnets are set to music by Roger Steptoe.

The WCO’s conductor, Anthony Hose works with many orchestras throughout Europe including the Berlin Symphony, Budapest Concert Orchestra, the Icelandic Symphony, the Rhine Philharmonic, the Munich Bach Collegium and the Orchestre de L’Opera de Lyon and in Britain with the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, and the English Chamber and the Welsh Chamber Orchestra of which he is Principal Conductor.

In the opera house he has conducted many productions for the Welsh National Opera with repertoire ranging from Handel to Tippett and including most of the operatic repertoire of Mozart, Verdi, and Puccini.

Jeremy Huw Williams studied at St John’s College, Cambridge, at the National Opera Studio, and with April Cantelo.

He made his debut with Welsh National Opera as Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) and has since appeared in sixty operatic roles.

He has given performances at major venues in North and South America, Australia, Hong Kong, and most European countries.
