ARTISTS and printmakers respond to antique maps housed at Ceredigion Museum in an exhb ition called Creative Mapping which runs from October 10 to January 24.

Artist Sarah Byfield, from the School of Art, Aberystwyth University, has been looking at some of the old maps held at Ceredigion Museum and selected a few to display.

“I wanted to show how fascinating these maps are, not only the printing techniques but also to illustrate how different maps can be,” she said.

Bringing things up to date are the Aberystwyth Printmakers who respond creatively to mapping. Each printed map is a personal interpretation of a locality.

Printmaker artist such as Barbara Matthews, Veronica Calarco, Sarah Byfield, Ian Phillips, Ali Lochhead, Mary Lloyd Jones, Stuart Evans, Helen Pugh, Judy Macklin, and Marie Pierre are displaying works alongside the original antique maps.

“Maps tell specific stories, and these works are created by local artists who know the area,” said Sarah. She has been working on this display since the inspiring ‘Walks and Talks’ series which she attended last year.
