TWO days of fabulous classical music are coming to north Pembrokeshire as Rhosygilwen mounts its August bank holiday Proms days.

Day 1 of the annual summer Proms on Saturday, August 26, will feature a chamber quintet of exquisite quality in the shape of Tim Hugh (cello LSO), Roman Simovic (violin LPO), Olga Sitkovetski (piano), Milana Simovic (viola), and Katerina Nazarova (violin).

Their programme will include a Franck sonata, Rachmaninov’s Elegy for Cello and Piano and Brahms’ Piano Quintet.

A supreme masterpiece, the piano quintet stands as a culmination and synthesis of Brahms’ compositional path in the early years and the first maturity. It stands at the junction between Hamburg and Vienna, looking back as well as forward.

On Day 2 the quintet off a Ravel Quartet, the Bulgarian Suite for string quartet arranged by Patrick de Broux and Dvorak’s piano quintet in A major.

The latter stands as one of the finest examples of late Romantic chamber music.

On both evenings, pre-concert suppers in the Orangery can be booked online with a vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu.
