CARDIGAN’S Theatr Mwldan will be screening a brand new production of the Rolls-Royce of English comedies, Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband on Tuesday, June 5 (7.15pm)

Broadcast live to cinemas from the Vaudeville Theatre in London’s West End, this entertaining and still topical play brings an act of political sin into the heart of the English home.

As an ambitious government minister, Sir Robert Chiltern’s smooth ascent to the top seems assured until Mrs Cheveley appears in London with damning proof of his previous financial chicanery.

This is the third play from the Oscar Wilde Season, a year-long celebration of the brilliant Victorian playwright being staged by the Classic Spring Theatre.

It features a star-studded cast including real-life father and son duo Edward Fox (The Audience, The Day of the Jackal) and Freddie Fox (The Judas Kiss, Cucumber & Banana).

Taking to the Vaudeville’s stage alongside the Fox’s is veteran stage and screen actress and Olivier Award-nominee Frances Barber (Silk, Antony and Cleopatra) as well as Olivier Award-winner Nathaniel Parker (This House, Wolf Hall).

Also featured in the cast is Not Going Out star Sally Bretton (King Lear) and Susan Hampshire (Forsyte Saga, Monarch of the Glen).

“Edward and Freddie Fox, as a father and son, are the star turn in this stylish revival of Wilde’s send-up of a money-mad society,” says The Guardian.

“A brilliant Freddie Fox embodies the Wildean spirit of modernity,”’ writes The Telegraph, while The Independent adds: “Susan Hampshire is an absolute delight as Lady Markby, wittering away about modern manias in a hilarious tour de force of empty-headed high society prattling.”

Tickets for Oscar Wilde Live productions are £15 (£14) and are available now from Theatr Mwldan’s Box Office on 01239 621200, online at www.mwldan.co.uk or via the Mwldan app.
