The Tribute to Pavarotti – One Amazing Weekend in Petra screened in Cardigan's Theatr Mwldan

A star-studded tribute concert to Luciano Pavarotti, held in the ancient city of Petra, Jordan last year in honour of the late tenor, is screening at Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan, this weekend on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th April.

The screenings launch an opera season at the cinema which continues with two productions from the internationally renowned Italian opera house La Scala - Giuseppe Verdi’s blockbuster Aida, and one of the composer’s most celebrated works, La Traviata, showing in May and June respectively.

The Pavarotti Tribute concert, entitled ‘The Tribute to Pavarotti – One Amazing Weekend in Petra’, brought together stars from the classical and popular worlds on what would have been Pavarotti’s 73rd birthday, to perform in front of a glittering crowd of musicians, celebrities and royalty at the world heritage site.

Against a breathtaking natural amphitheatre, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras sang together for the first time since Pavarotti's death heralded the end of the "Three Tenors".

Andrea Boccelli performed from Tosca, and was joined by others to sing from Puccini's La Boheme; whilst Sting performed "La Ci Darem" from Don Giovanni with opera star Angela Gheorghiu, and U2 frontman Bono gave a tribute message to the master.

Other performers included Andrea Griminelli, Zucchero, Jovanotti, Laura Pausini, all supported by the Prague Philharmonia Orchestra.

Theatr Mwldan will show a 90-minute edited version of the concert. The Pavarotti Tribute concert and La Scala operas will be shown in high definition and surround sound, giving audiences the opportunity to experience world-class classical music for the price of a cinema ticket.
