Food for heroes published by Accent Press

The charity Help for Heroes has spent years raising money to support wounded servicemen and women across the UK.

And its most recent effort is something for all foodies to enjoy, with the launch of the Help for Heroes Cook Book, which poses a very important question: “What would you feed your hero?”

This book provides the answers. It is jam-packed with delicious recipes chosen by a whole host of famous people – and more importantly servicemen and women.

Published by Accent Press, now based near Merthyr Tydfil but formerly of Pembroke Dock, the cookbook is part of the Help the Heroes nationwide campaign to raise £3 million.

The book’s author Squadron Leader Jon Pullen approached Accent Press after seeing its East Meets West cook book, which featured top chefs like Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver and was published in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami.

Accent Press managing director, Hazel Cushion said: “When Jon approached us we thought it was a great concept.

“His idea was to ask more than 100 celebrities, top chefs, politicians and war heroes who was their hero and what they would like to feed them?

“It’s just like creating the ultimate dinner party guest list and provides an interesting mix of human interest stories and celebrity insights.”

The easy-to-follow recipes and bright, interesting pages were designed by Haverfordwest-based designer Jayne Minter, of Red Dot Design. All the recipes, chosen by people such as Gordon Brown, Ewan McGregor and Ainsley Harriott, were taste tested by a team of military chefs so you know they will definitely cut the mustard.

* The Help for Heroes Cook Book is available from June 22nd, priced £14.99.
