All Names Have Been Changed
Claire Kilroy
Faber (£12.99)
Set in Dublin in the mid-1980s, with the Irish capital in the grip of recession and a heroin epidemic, All Names Have Been Changed is narrated by Declan, the only boy of a tight-knit writing group at Trinity College.
The story follows the group, consisting of Declan and four women —Aisling, Antonia, Faye and Guinevere — who become strangely fascinated with the talented but troubled writer Glynn, and the dark and bizarre journey this obsession takes them on.
Many of us have had crushes on a teacher, but Kilroy takes this idea to a new different level.
The novel, which looks at the shifting group dynamic as things soon take a depressing turn, also offers an insight into the writing world.
All Names Have Been Changed will take you on an unpredictable journey into some dark nooks and crannies.
