Theatr Mwldan Film Society is exploring the work of the iconic Welsh actor Stanley Baker tonight (Wednesday).

Stanley Baker was one of the most remarkable screen talents produced by Wales. His rise to fame took him from an impoverished childhood in the Rhondda valley to international recognition in films such as Zulu. Along the way he became Britain's definitive film 'tough guy' as well as a favourite actor for directors like Joseph Losey. He was also a successful independent producer and studio executive who never lost his links with his working-class roots.

This talk, illustrated with specially chosen film clips, will be given by Baker's biographer Robert Shail, who is a lecturer in film history at the University of Wales, Trinity St David. Robert has also written the books Seventies British Cinema and the perceptive and comprehensive British Film Directors. The talk will be followed by a question and answer session and the evening will include a buffet and the chance to discuss the society's films and film in general.

Everyone is welcome. Tickets, priced at just £5 (including buffet), are available by calling 01239 621200.
