Milford Haven railway on track to special anniversary year
6:00am Sunday 3rd March 2013 in News
Milford Haven's railway is on track for its 150th anniversary.
September 7, 2013, marks the 150th anniversary of the opening of the railway line in 1863, and the opening of the Milford train station to passengers.
John Gale, from Hubberston, said it was important to mark the occasion because of the role the railway line played in the development of the town.
He said: "The connection of the town to the main South Wales Railway (GWR) at Johnston was a very important factor in the development of the town, especially with the opening of the docks and the build up of the fishing industry."
Mr Gale said that it was important to remember Robert Fulke Greville, who actively promoted and supported the building of the branch line to Johnston.
He added: "We are lucky today to have an excellent train service from Milford, but it is important to remember those who promoted the building of the line back in 1863."
