Around 600 people were without electricity last night as the strong winds caused power problems across a large part of Pembrokeshire.

Western Power Distribution (WPD) said the areas affected were Dale, Marloes, St Ismaels, Tiers Cross and Talbenny with approximately 600 customers affected in total.

A spokesman from WPD said: "From around 6pm last night when the weather deteriorated with wind speeds consistent with the predicted weather forecast,  WPD’s offices remained open throughout the night.

"Overnight our engineers worked extremely hard  in difficult conditions to restore approximately 6000 customers throughout the whole of South Wales."

Pembrokeshire County Council dealt with over 15 trees blown down overnight and a number of road closures, some implemented due to dangerous structures.

Waves overtopped Dale sea defences last night so will be expected to overtop again this morning. Sandbags were washed away.

High tide is at 0958 at Milford Haven and a large surge is predicted.

Other issues overnight:

• A487 at Newgale remains closed.

• Road on Amroth sea front also closed.

• Road from Letterston to Little Newcastle is closed due to roof sheets flying onto road.

• Road from Coppet Hall to Sardis junction at Saundersfoot closed due to tree blown down.

• Road from Manor Park to St Florence closed due to debris and structures on the road. Likely to be closed all day.

• Sea front road at Gelliswick also closed.

• Falling roof tiles closed footpath off Spring Gardens, Narberth.

• Tree down on Union Hill, Haverfordwest but road passable with care.

An Amber Wind warning is in place for Pembrokeshire until 1900 hours tonight.

A Yellow Rain has also been issued for Pembrokeshire today while a Tidal Flood warning has been issued for Dale, Amroth and Newgale.

A Flood Alert is in place for the Pembrokeshire coastline and also for rivers at Tenby and Stepaside. The public should be prepared for the risk of further disruption to transport and power due to fallen trees.

They should also be aware of the risk of disruption from either the wind or rain elements in this warning. Additionally, large waves mean a further risk of flooding in some coastal areas.
