THE Met Office has warned that Pembrokeshire can expect further bands of heavy rain and 60mph winds over the next few days.

Several roads across the county have had to be closed due to flooding and debris, and on Tuesday night around 600 people were without electricity.

A spokesman from Western Power Distribution said: “In Pembrokeshire the areas affected were Dale, Marloes, St Ishmaels, Tiers Cross and Talbenny with approximately 600 customers affected in total.

“Our offices remained open throughout the night and our engineers worked extremely hard in difficult conditions to restore approximately 6000 customers throughout the whole of South Wales.”

The roads in Newgale, Amroth, Wisemans Bridge and Gelliswick seafronts were closed for all or part of Wednesday, with incidents also reported on the Commons Road in Pembroke, the road between Burton and Houghton, and the road between Rosemarket and Honeyborough earlier in the week.

Pembrokeshire County Council workers have been out in force clearing debris and pebbles off the roads at Little Haven, Broad Haven and Nolton Haven.

The weather is also providing difficult for motorists. On Monday night Milford Haven firefighters were called to a road traffic collision between the Troopers Inn and Llangwm, involving one vehicle. There was also an incident between the Cleddau Bridge and Westfield Pill Bridge on A4075, when vehicle lost control in water coming down from a field.

Nicola Maxey from the MET Office has warned that Pembrokeshire is in for some more unsettled weather.

She said: “There will be a band of heavy rain coming in on Thursday evening. About 15-20mm of rain is expected to fall, possibly higher in exposed areas.

“Friday won’t be a bad day, but gusts will build throughout the day, reaching speeds of up to 40mph.

“Saturday and Sunday will see further bands of rain, with wind speeds increasing to 60mph.”
