A SIXTH-former from Pembroke Dock, who started his own business when he was just 13, has been recognised for his entrepreneurial success.

Ysgol y Preseli student Rhodri Maiden was named Radio Pembrokeshire Young Entrepreneur at the station's Local Hero awards on February 27.

The annual event, which this year took place at at Slebech Park, celebrates some of the most remarkable individuals in Pembrokeshire for their outstanding contribution to the community.

Anna Malloy, of award sponsor Port of Milford Haven, said: “It’s great to see young entrepreneurs such as Rhodri recognised for their business success.

"We were lucky enough to have tasted some of his fudge during the Local Hero awards and it was amazing.

"He’s a fantastic role model for young people across Pembrokeshire.”

Rhodri set up his business when he was just 13, making homemade jam with ingredients from his grandmother's garden, and selling at local markets.

Within a few years, he has developed his business into Rhodri’s Homemade Fudge, which is sold in stores across the county.

He also works with Pembrokeshire Tourism, and says the courses he has been on have really helped him to grow his business.

Rhodri said it was an honour to receive a Local Hero award, and that he hopes to build on his success when he finishes school next year.
