EIGHT young people from Milford Haven bagged themselves some new skills recently, when they spent the day cleaning up the coast with the national park.

On Wednesday, March 12, the GET IT project from Milford Youth Matters went out with rangers from Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority (PCNPA) for a day of volunteering.

With the sun shining the group, made up of eight young people and two youth workers, couldn’t have picked a better day to head out to Dale Fort for a day of conserving the coastal path.

Everybody got stuck in, with tasks including widening and flattening the path, cutting back hedges and sawing down trees.

And after a well-deserved lunch break, the volunteers swept the beach for rubbish, filling an 14 bags full of flotsam.

Hayley Barrett, PCNPA ranger, had only positive feedback for the group of volunteersL

"Thank-you to Milford Haven Youth Matters for their hard work helping to maintain the well-loved coast path near Dale Fort.

“As well as levelling out the path and clearing back vegetation, they removed an impressive 14 bags of rubbish from Castle Bay as part of the winter storm clear-up."

GET IT helps people young people aged 16 to 25 who are not in employment, education or training to gain essential skills and help them into work.

As well as tidying up the countryside, members have been getting involved in a range of community projects. They will soon be helping take care of the animals at Greenacres rescue centre, near Talbenny, and in June will host their own jobs fair.
