FRUSTRATION over a lack of parking spaces at Milford Haven’s Manchester Square Health Centre has led to a site visit by local councillors and the health board.
Representatives from Milford Haven Town Council, health centre, and Hywel Dda Health Board visited the car park on Monday, July 28, to discuss the provision of spaces.
Last spring, a huge chunk of the car park was blocked off by landlords Assura Group Ltd, which plans to build houses on the site, leaving patients questioning whether the new super surgery was still 'fit for purpose'.
Despite the issue has being raised again and again by the town council, the health board maintains that the provision of spaces meets Welsh Assembly guidelines.
The situation has led to some patients parking in nearby streets, which has been described as a potential hazard by town councillors.
Mayor of Milford Haven, Cllr Eric Harries, said the issue is one that must be addressed by the health board, especially as the current situation does not “allow for the future development of the centre, which is inevitable as local hospital services are moved further from areas of Pembrokeshire”.
He added that Pembrokeshire deserved ‘special consideration’ as a rural area, with more people needing to drive to visit a doctor.
