Students across the county celebrate A Level success

10:34am Thursday 14th August 2014

STUDENTS across the county nervously awaited their A Level results this morning.

There was delight at many of the county’s schools with many young people now looking forward to heading to university.

Of the record 98 students who sat A level examinations at Ysgol y Preseli in 2014, 49% of grades were awarded at A*- A; 85% at A* - C and 99% A* - E.

Headteacher Michael Davies wished to thank the pupils and teachers for their hard work and dedication along with the parents, Governors and the wider community for their continued excellent support.

Mr Davies said: “As ever, this is a very impressive set of results and I am delighted that so many of our pupils have done so well. I am particularly pleased that the vast majority have secured places at the universities of their choice and I wish them every success in the future. A Level students work incredibly hard and though it is fashionable to assume that standards have declined, the amount of work sixth formers now have to do has made attaining qualifications at this level much harder than it used to be. We should also not forget the added pressures caused by the lack of employment opportunities and the demands of the university system and the increasing competition for places.”

Milford Haven headteacher Rod Francis said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the A Level results this year. It’s the best we’ve had for a number of years. Most of our children now have their place at university and we’re looking forward to celebrating the day with them and their families.

“We will miss them greatly. They are a particularly good year, not just in academia but giving everything to the school.

“I wish them all the best for the future.”

Ysgol Dewi Sant headteacher David Haynes: “We enjoyed excellent A Level results this year with all students being offered a place at University with the majority getting into their first choice.

“I am delighted that 70% of all grades were A*-C and I would like to congratulate all students and staff for their hard work and dedication this year.

“AS results were also of a high standard with the majority of students achieving their target grades.”
