YOUNG people from Milford Haven have brushed up on their painting skills to give a run-down local park a new lease of life.

The 12 to 14-year-olds, who are all members of Hubberston and Hakin Youth Club, worked for several days to strip down and re-paint the play equipment at Glebelands play area in Hakin.

Taking part were Cameron Phillips, Ashton Oaten, Ashton King, Ben Utting, Abi Evans, Summer John and Kian Hughes.

The teens were working with local Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) Laura Galdo, Tessa Williams and Danny Nash, and volunteers Josh Howells, Sara Hire, Daniel Dyson and Gareth Bridges, from Milford Haven-based youth scheme MY Time.

PCSO Laura Galdo, who got the ball rolling on the paint project, said the group’s effort had made her very proud.

“The group worked very well and are keen to improve their community,” she said.

“The park was looking very run down and dilapidated, and we wanted the area to be brightened up as the children still use the park regularly.”

Paint and materials worth £300 were provided by Pembrokeshire County Council through the Welsh Government’s Tidy Towns initiative, which aims to support communities to take pride in where they live.

The project was also sponsored by Julio Galdo of Granicol Ltd, who provided metal brushes and scrapes to prepare the climbing frame for painting, and dust sheets to protect the ground.

MY Time is a volunteering scheme for 16-25 year olds facilitated by Milford Youth Matters and Pembrokeshire Youth.
