HUBBERSTON School junior reporters Nile Griffiths and Jessica Sandy talk about their recent trip back in time…

On Friday, October 17, Hubberston school juniors had a very fun time visiting Caerleon Roman Fort.

When we all got there we could not wait to step out of the hot bus.

First we went to look at the remains in the museum and barrack room.

There were items like ancient helmets, daggers, coins, jewelry and pottery. The jewelry the Romans wore around their neck was very similar to the jewelry we wear now.

One thing that really caught our eyes was a skeleton in a coffin. It was from the actual Roman times, over 2,000 years ago!

Then our class walked to the barrack room. The lady showed us some of the weapons that they used in battle.

Among the things they used were shields, swords and javelins.

Then we were lucky enough to try on some armor that was especially made for children to put on. Everyone looked amazing!

After lunch we went to the bus and put our wellies on and followed Mrs Buirds, our LSA, to the amphitheatre.

There was a lady called Sian who told us about the history and made sure we knew how to keep safe while looking around.

Next Mr Stow got out the iPads so we could video all the different reports about the Roman amphitheatre.

Everyone had a great time researching and being film directors.

The next visit was to the Roman bath houses. In the bath house there were the different baths - the tepidarium, the frigidarium and the caldarium.

They are all different types of baths. There were lots of tunnels to get into the swimming pool. There was also a film of what they did in the pool.

It was a long trip home – and most of the teachers went to sleep half way there, but it was just such a fun day.
