POLICE investigating an Edinburgh murder have enlisted the help of community safety staff from the city council.

Staff in The Inch area have been briefed by Detective Inspector Bobby Deas and are assisting police in handing out leaflets and posters appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Last Saturday, a week after Martyn Barclay was murdered, officers, detectives and roads policing officers revisited the scene in an effort to gather more information from potential witnesses.

Police said 50 people were spoken to between 4am and 7am and the responses were being examined.

Mr Deas said: "Our efforts on Saturday morning yielded some good results. The area was far busier than we expected at that time, and we would like to thank everyone who stopped for their assistance.

"The community safety staff are a valuable resource in the local neighbourhood, and we are grateful for their support in this investigation.

"We are doing all we can to trace the person responsible for this young man's death. We are once again asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who has any information to come forward."

Paul Edie, chairman of Edinburgh Community Safety Partnership, said: "This demonstrates once again the excellent relationship between the council and the police."
