FORTH Road Bridge bosses were forced to act after a group of female charity walkers dressed as Easter bunnies caused traffic chaos.

Motorists on the bridge were stunned to see the bizarre scene of life-size rabbits marching their way past their cars.

It was soon revealed that the furry animals were in fact a group of female supermarket workers doing a sponsored walk for testicular cancer charity Everyman.

Despite the tailbacks drivers clapped and snapped photographs of the colourful bunnies.

However, bridge bosses decided to cut their walk short, demanding they take off their costumes. But they were only able to confiscate the rabbit heads when they were told the Asda employees had no clothes on underneath.

Head bunny Heather Armstrong was enjoying the walk until they were ordered to stop.

She said: "They asked us if we could take the costumes off but we said we had nothing on underneath so they confiscated the heads instead and drove off with them."

After the bunnies' heads were removed, they were allowed to continue the walk but knew the game was up on the return journey when they found a mini bus in their path.

Ms Armstrong added: "The patrol said we were still causing trouble with the traffic and escorted us off the bridge."

A spokesman for the Forth Estuary Transport Authority, which runs the bridge, insisted the reason for preventing the walk to continue was down to safety.
