Detectives hunting a man wanted in connection with a shooting incident last night reinforced a warning that he could pose a major threat to the public.

At a press conference yesterday, Fife Police warned people not to approach Brian Martin, known as Hawk. The alleged attacker's accomplice, who was armed with an axe, is also being sought by police but officers did not release his details.

The investigation began after a man was slightly injured when a shot was fired as he answered the front door of his home in Kelty, Fife, on Wednesday morning.

Police took the unusual step of issuing a photograph of Mr Martin, 47, from the nearby village of Ballingry.

Speaking at Cowdenbeath police station, Superintendent Martin Birrell said: "Brian Martin poses a real danger to the public. On no account should anyone approach him."

He said a warrant had been issued for Mr Martin's arrest.
