SCOTS remain largely satisfied with the NHS, according to a repeat

survey of users carried out on behalf of the NHS Management Executive,

published yesterday.

However, they were not as satisfied with maternity services and

accident and emergency services.

The Scottish Health Minister, Lord Fraser, said that working groups

had been set up to raise standards in both these fields.

Mori surveyed 3078 Scots and two extra sample groups of 219 maternity

service and 216 accident and emergency services users over the summer.

Most people were satisfied with the performance of the NHS in

Scotland, with community services (93%) and GP services (92%) coming top

for satisfaction.

They were followed by out-patients (91%), in-patients and day-cases

(88%), accident and emergency (83%), and maternity (80%).
