THE SCOTTISH regional organiser of the Transport and General Workers

Union, Mr Willie Queen, has been appointed regional secretary in

succcession to Mr David Shoat, who was relieved of his duties in March.

Five years ago Mr Queen, 59, was passed over for what is arguably the

top trade union post in Scotland. Earlier this year votes of no

confidence in Mr Shoat, 53, by the lay Scottish regional committee and

by Scottish officials prompted an internal investigation into his

administration of the 100,000-member region. This resulted in a

unanimous executive decision to relieve him of his duties.
