As the auditor of local authorities in West Central Scotland, I was
responsible for reporting in the public interest and advocating remedial
action if necessary.
I am therefore delighted to see that the Bank of England is to be sued
by BCCI depositors.
I am eagerly awaiting the judgment of Lord Prosser in his February
judicial review of the Accounts Commission's decision to surcharge
officials of the Western Isles for the cost of the council's investment
in BCCI.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
