A campaign was launched in Edinburgh on Monday, calling for the new national arts agency, Creative Scotland, to be located in the capital rather than Glasgow.

Ewan Aitken, leader of Edinburgh City Council, said it would be "cultural vandalism" to base the organisation anywhere other than Edinburgh because the city is the "cultural capital".

Creative Scotland is being formed by merging the Scottish Arts Council and Scottish Screen. The arts council currently has 90 staff based in the capital while Scottish Screen has 54 staff in Glasgow.

Ministers are due to make an announcement on Creative Scotland's location in the next few weeks.
