SPAM sandwiches and victory rolls will be on the menu for two events marking VE Day this Friday.

The Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre is holding a special event where Victory in Europe 70 years ago is being celebrated with wartime fair which will bring back memories to many.

At the Heritage Centre - in the Royal Dockyard Chapel - spam and jam sandwiches will be on offer together with a ‘wad’ - a slice of fruit cake. All to be washed down by a nice cup of ‘char’ - free if a sandwich or cake are purchased.

All this happens on VE Day 70, Friday May 8, and Saturday May 9 from 10am-4pm.

Adding to the wartime scene will be centre’s volunteers and staff who will be entering in the spirit of the times by wearing 1940s clothes and styles. Photographs of victory celebrations in the area will also be on view.

The heritage centre’s oral history team will be on hand to record wartime memories of visitors.

There will be activities for youngsters and stories, memories and photographs of 70 years ago. The American GIs and their special connections with Pembrokeshire will be told in a talk by Gareth Mills of the Sunderland Trust.

Neyland Town Council will also be holding a service to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day on Friday, at St Clement's Church, Neyland.

It will start at 7pm and be followed by a themed tea in the church hall.

The church hall will be decorated in bunting and wartime posters and photos, and everyone is invited to dress in 1940s style for the occasion.

Neyland Ladies Choir will lead a sing-a-long of wartime songs informally during the tea.
