POLICE have issued a warning to dog owners after a German Shephard attacked a Labrador near the Meads Sport Centre, in Milford Haven.

The incident happened at around 5pm on Monday (June 15).

Police said the dog was distressed but not injured, and the owner of the dog that carried out the attack is in the process of being identified and will be given 'appropriate words of advice'.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said: "Dog owners have a legal responsibility to ensure their dogs behave appropriately in public and in private places.

"Anyone found to be neglecting those responsibilities and allowing their dog to be ‘dangerously out of control’ could face prosecution under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

"Anyone who witnesses a dog behaving aggressively on one or more occasions is urged to contact police by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency."

Owners who have dogs that are nervous, ill, or hurt, can also sign up for the free Yellow Dog UK scheme.

Set up by pet-sitters and dog-walkers’ organisation NarpsUK, the scheme involved dogs wearing a yellow ribbon to alert others to the fact they need a bit more space and should not be approached.

Aggressive dogs should always wear a muzzle.
