FESTIVAL fever swept through the streets of Neyland for the town carnival on Saturday (July 11).

Despite only being its second year back after a long break, local pubs, clubs, groups and streets pushed the boat out for the event, with a range of colourful and creative floats taking part.

The Rose and Willow took first prize in the pubs and clubs category with their Glastonbury Festival float, with the Coburg claiming second place.

Harbour Close, Cleddau Avengers, College Park Rangers and Neyland Toddler group were rewarded in the 'best street' category, while Gymnasts of Oz and Vibe School of Dance won 'best out of town' entries.

Prizes for walkers went to Doll in a Box, America Indians, Meal for One, Romans Are Coming, Doodles, Skateboarders, Boy in Wheelbarrow and numerous others.

Carnival princess Bethan Rhead and her attendants Lily Cole and Leah Woolston enjoyed the day in dresses tailor-made by Lorraine, and Pig Street Trotters jazz band entertained the crowds on the carnival field.

"Neyland proved itself once again with a wonderful array of floats and walkers," said organiser Malcolm Hawkins.

"The day was very well attended, and a big thank you goes to our main sponsor Dragon LNG, as well as Enviroventure, the Port of Milford Haven, Austwell, Port Engineering and Pembrokeshire Building Supplies, Sinclair garages for the use of a beautiful carnival princess and attendants car, Cleddau Insurance, our Walkie Talkie people TFL, plus all the people who advertised with us."

He also thanked Neyland Athletic Club for the use of the venue, Neyland Town Council - who paid for bunting around the town - and RAOB members.

Mayor of Neyland, Cllr Margaret Brace, said the town's enthusiasm had been wonderful.

"The sun was definitely shining on Neyland today," she said.
