MORE than £10,000 was raised at the Greenacres Animal Rescue open day on Sunday (July 19).

Members of the public turned out in their hundreds to meet the dedicated staff at the Talbenny-based centre and the dogs and cats in need of loving homes.

As well as being a fun day out for the family, the annual open day was also an opportunity to have a reunion of dogs which had been rescued from Greenacres since it opened in 2008.

Attractions included the fun dog show, a have a go agility course, a flying display from Pembrokeshire Falconry, pet portraits, EduPets, as well as various stalls and refreshments.

Greenacres manager Mikey Lawlor said: “I am astounded by support our open day received.

“The forecast all week said it was going to pour down all day, but the weather was kind to us and we enjoyed glorious sunshine.

“The total amount raised was £10,441, but a friend of mine kindly donated £59 to make it up to the £10,500. £165 of the total was raised from direct donations to our cattery fund, which is ongoing at the moment.”

Mikey added: “Lots of dogs came back to visit and it's great to see them happy and with owners that love them as they deserve.

“There were lots of new faces too, and everyone seemed to enjoy the day with the falconry display proving very popular.”
