PEMBROKESHIRE County Council has seen a shake-up in its membership over the last week, with one member stepping down from the Cabinet, and another leaving the ruling Independent Plus Group (IPG).

Councillor Myles Pepper, member for Fishguard North East takes on the Planning and Sustainability portfolio, replacing Councillor Rob Summons who is standing down.

Council Leader Jamie Adams said of Cllr Pepper: “He is also a long-standing member of the council and I feel sure that his commitment to the people of Pembrokeshire and his ability to contribute to debate will serve the Cabinet well.”

Councillor Adams also thanked Cllr Summons for his work as a Cabinet member and wished him well for the future.

In another council shake-up, Monkton member Cllr Pearl Llewellyn resigned from the ruling IPG last Thursday.

Speaking to the Western Telegraph, Cllr Llewellyn said that resignation had been on her mind for a while.

“I’ve been thinking about it for a long time; it is true I have been carrying that letter [of resignation] around for a long time.

“It’s just things building up; it’s not because, as some people have said, I’m changing sides before the next election.

“There’s no ulterior motive, I’m not going to be joining any group.

“I won’t be standing at the next election, no matter what promises are made me; after 18-19 years it’s time for a bit of new blood.

“If it wasn’t so close to the elections (2017) I would’ve packed it in.”

Cllr Llewellyn added: “I haven’t been up to County Hall since last Thursday, I will be going up this week and see what reception I get.

“I think I’ve worked very hard for Monkton and Monkton’s much-improved, not just through me.”
