Preseli Pembrokeshire MP Stephen Crabb believes the two LNG projects have brought a major skills boost to the county.

The MP recently paid his second visit to the Dragon LNG site at Waterston in 18 months, to meet the new team of operators who will run the natural gas import facility when it is fully commissioned towards the end of the year.

Mr Crabb said: "They look a highly motivated and capable team. There is no question that the two LNG projects have brought a major skills boost to our county."

The process of recruiting the operations workforce has already started and so far this year 20 people have been hired by Dragon LNG to form the team.

They are receiving training in all aspects of the day-to-day workings of an LNG terminal, both at the Waterston site and in Portugal where they have gained hands-on experience at a fully operational LNG plant.

Mr Crabb said: "The training they are being given will not just help Dragon LNG be successful as one of the UK's key energy hubs.

"In time it will also feed into the wider labour pool in Pembrokeshire and help to raise skill levels further."

The MP was also given the opportunity to view the progress of the construction project and to discuss a range of issues with management, including health and safety, traffic and community relations.

After his meeting with managers, Mr Crabb said: "I was impressed with their knowledge and enthusiasm and by the fact that they all come from such a variety of different backgrounds even though most are local people.

"Some have had a long work history at the local oil refineries; others have come from very different industries and will bring new perspectives and experiences."

During the visit Stephen was also presented with a donation made by Dragon LNG to the Mencap Gardens at Stackpole in sponsorship for his London Marathon run last month.
