A Milford Haven woman who threatened a police officer with a Samurai sword while as “high as a kite” has been jailed today (Thursday).

Tracy Edwards, aged 49, admitted an affray outside her home in Cherry Tree Close and to possessing an article with a blade in a public place.

Kevin Jones, prosecuting, told Swansea crown court there had been a disturbance at her home on September 18 involving her son.

A neighbour became so alarmed she telephoned the police and then took her grandchildren to the opposite side of the street to keep them safe.

Police officers arrived to see Edwards’ son with blood on his arm.

Edwards herself then emerged from the house holding the Samurai sword above her head and told one officer “you are going to f***king have it.”

Mr Jones said Edwards went back inside and when officers followed her they discovered a man had already taken the sword from her.

Edwards, he added, had been “highly intoxicated” on a combination of vodka and “legal highs.”

Judge Peter Heywood said it “beggared belief” that anyone would want to keep such a “horrendous, vicious looking” weapon inside their home.

He said police officers had to carry out important but dangerous duties and he would be failing in his duty if he did not send out a message that would deter others from behaving like Edwards had.

The combination of a Samurai sword and Edwards being “as high as a kite” could have resulted in very serious consequences and even death, he added.

Edwards was jailed for four months and ordered to pay a £900 court fee.
