A GREAT-great-grandmother who has lived through two World Wars celebrated her 101st birthday with a sing-a-long last week.

Louvain Thomas marked the momentous day with a party at Havenhurst Day Centre in Milford Haven.

Senior carer, Julie Jones, arranged for local singer Peggy Angell to visit and lead a sing-a-long followed by afternoon tea and birthday cake.

β€œIt was a marvellous day – a good old-fashioned birthday party,” said daughter Julie Randell, with whom Louvain lives in Milford Haven.

Louvain was born in nearby Pembrey just after the outbreak of the First World War, on November 26, 1914.

Her father died in a mining accident when she was just 13 and shortly afterwards Louvain went out to work.

It was through her work that she met her husband Emrys and together they ran a grocery delicatessen business - Thomas' Stores - in Burry Port for many years.

On being widowed 26 years ago, Louvain moved to Pembrokeshire to live with her daughter and family.

Louvain is the senior member of a five-generation family with one daughter, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
