A CAKE designer from Milford Haven who makes ‘edible works of art’ will be raising her profile when she appears on TV alongside celebrity chef James Martin.

Helen Bakunowicz, also known as the Bakemonger, will join the chef on his 'James Martin: Home Comforts’ show on BBC on Monday (January 11).

Originally from Milford Haven, Helen studied fashion textile design, and worked in the industry for 15 years, travelling all over the world, before switching careers.

Now the 37-year-old is on a mission to get her elegant edibles ‘acknowledged as a valid art form’.

“Baking has very naturally become my creative medium,” said Helen, who now lives in Somerset with her husband and red setter Dotty.

"My love of colour, textiles, art, design and culture culminate in my baked creations.”

One of Helen’s elaborate wedding ‘cakescapes’ will feature on the show, which was filmed in July at Hauser and Wirth Somerset.

And appearing alongside Helen and her beautiful bakes will be her mum Barbara, 80, who still lives in Milford haven.

“I’m so excited we are going to be on TV,” said Helen.

“We are so proud to be one of a small group of local producers and artisans selected by the BBC team to feature in the series.”

The film will be a part of the 'Show off Suppers' episode, which will also feature Carol Kirkwood - recent star of Strictly Come Dancing.

The show will air on Monday, January 11, at 3.45pm, and will be repeated on Saturday, January 16, at 11.30am (after Saturday Kitchen).
