Hubberston and Hakin Community Centre will not close in April, as previously planned, it has been announced by a local councillor.
In a statement posted online, Cllr Viv Stoddart said the authority had agreed to pay to keep the centre - which had been earmarked for closure in light of budget cuts - open until the summer.
Cllr Stoddart said the good news came following a meeting between herself, Hakin councillor Mike Stoddart, the council's chief executive Ian Westley, and director of social service Pam Marsden, earlier today.
"Hubberston and Hakin Community Centre will continue to provide popular services until the end of July, thanks to a reprieve granted by Pembrokeshire County Council," said Cllr Stoddart.
"The centre is costing the council about £20,000 a year to keep the doors open.
"The authority had decided to cut costs by closing the centre in April, but following a meeting this morning between Mike and myself and the council’s chief executive Ian Westley and the director of social service Pam Marsden, the council has confirmed it will continue to fund and manage the building until the end of the summer term.
"This extension of time will enable the community to explore options for the future funding of the centre."
The Western Telegraph is currently waiting for confirmation of the announcement from the county council.
