BROTHERS from Pennar have been sent to prison for 23 weeks for a double assault on the mother of the eldest sibling’s child.

Nyle Lewis, 24, and Elliot Lewis, 20, of Stranraer Road, initially pleaded not guilty to beating Nyle’s ex-partner, who cannot be named.

During the attack the woman, a children’s nursery worker, sustained two black eyes, facial bruising, grazes and bruises on her legs, a severe bruise to the side of her body and numerous bruises on her arms, caused by her raising them to protect her face.

In addition to the custodial sentence, magistrates ordered the brothers to pay the woman £400 compensation each and imposed an indefinite restraining order to keep them away from her.

After viewing pictures of her injuries at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Wednesday (February 3), the men changed their pleas to guilty.

The assault pre-dates Elliot’s recent conviction for writing off his dad’s BMW while drunk, for which he received a suspended prison sentence.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones said the attack occurred after a party.

Nyle lived with the woman at the time.

“The female had an affair, and although they had got back together Nyle didn’t want to let her forget that,” Mr Pritchard-Jones explained.

“She had drunk quite a lot at the party. She left alone, walked home and went to bed.

"The next thing she remembers is Nyle pulling the covers off her, shouting that he’d looked at her phone and saw she’d messaged the person she had the affair with.”

Nyle locked himself in the bathroom, reading the messages out loud, the court heard.

“She wanted her phone back, and kicked the bathroom door,” said Mr Pritchard-Jones.

“It’s not clear what happened next. Nyle pulled a 40inch TV off the wall, threw it on the floor, and swiped items including a Playstation 4 and a Sky box on to the floor.

"The woman described such behaviour as ‘typical of Nyle’.”

Mr Pritchard-Jones said Nyle grabbed the woman by her hair and “pulled so hard her scalp felt like it was on fire”.

“He dragged her down the stairs on her hands and knees, calling her a liar,” he said.

“That’s when Elliot arrived. He grabbed her top’s hood and dragged her out of the house on her back. She struggled to breathe.”

The brothers went back to the house, leaving her outside.

In what Mr Pritchard-Jones described as a “bad decision”, she went back in. A neighbour appeared, and told the men to leave.

“Elliot pushed the woman on to her bed. He straddled her and began to punch her. She can’t remember how many times.

"When he stopped, she was very angry and she went for him. Nyle grabbed her wrists and she headbutted him twice in his bottom lip.”

The neighbour managed to persuade the brothers to leave.

Representing Nyle, solicitor Mathew Greenish said there were “two sides to the story”.

“My client has had open heart surgery twice, most recently last July.

"He had drunk several cans at the party. He went home but left after arguing with his then-partner, but returned to retrieve his medication,” Mr Greenish said.

“Nyle accepts it was actually him who dragged her out of the house. She headbutted him twice.

"It’s clear the victim was angry. It takes two to tango, or, in this case, three to tango. None of the parties are innocent.”

Mr Pritchard-Jones said the “medication excuse” was “ludicrous”.

Elliot’s solicitor Michael Kelleher said “no-one could get over the fact the photos show extremely serious injuries”.

“Incidents like this happen quickly and you don’t necessarily see the consequences. There was bruising, but nothing was broken,” he said.

“There are things the lady did during the incident that she didn’t mention in interview. She went back in to the house, and things got completely out of hand.”

In her statement, the woman admitted her affair but said she “didn’t deserve the assault”.

“Nyle has never shown any remorse,” she added.

“I’m the mother of his child, and he let Elliot assault me. I was humiliated by my injuries. I didn’t want people to see me.”
