FOUR-legged friends put their best paw forwards on the weekend, to take part in the Green Acres Staffie Strut.

More than 50 dogs and their owners braved the rain to raise awareness of this often misunderstood breed.

Starting at County Hall in Haverfordwest, owners and their canine companions walked along Freemans Way, accompanied by Pembrokeshire County Council dog wardens Sally Bland and Ruth Edwards.

Also there to show support was Haverfordwest mayor and loyal Staffie-lover Cllr Sue Murray, who was keen to help raise funds for the animal rescue centre.

Said Mikey Lawlor, of Green Acres: "This is the second year we have organised the walk and with the interest increasing I think we are set to make it an annual event.

"Staffies and their crosses are one of the most popular breeds seen in rescue centres across the UK but are sadly overlooked due to years of bad press.

"We are hoping such events will raise the profile of this wonderful breed, which was once know as the 'nanny dog'.

"It's great to see Staffies getting the support they need.

"As a rescue we are committed to helping Staffies and work tirelessly to educate owners on the importance of responsible pet ownership and in particular neutering."

The event raised more than £770. To add to the total, visit www.greenacresrescue.org.uk.
