A VISIT from two writers has inspired pupils at Milford Haven School.

Authors Steve Barlow and Steve Skidmore, known to everyone who reads their books as ‘the two Steves’ spoke with Year 7 and 8 pupils about reading for pleasure, and how it can improve the stories they write.

The pair read extracts from their books, explaining why authors end chapters on cliff-hangers and why it is sometimes necessary to kill off the hero of the story.

Year 9 pupils then took part in a writing workshop, where they learned which elements are required to write a successful story and gained tips on how to improve their writing and vocabulary, thus gaining more marks in their English exams.

The day was rounded off with an informal lunchtime session with another group of Year 9 students and some Sixth Form aspiring writers, where everyone had a chance to chat to the Steves and ask them lots of questions about their work and writing in general.

Librarian Julie Hudson said: "It was an enjoyable day and a fantastic opportunity for pupils to meet these two very entertaining authors and, hopefully, be inspired to read more."
