TWO Milford Haven primary school teachers will be spending their summer break in Africa, helping give slum children "the chance of a better future".

Jazz Langdon, from Narberth, and Lisa Davies, from Haverfordwest, both teachers at the Meads School, will be spending three weeks helping the Child of Hope charity in Uganda.

Child of Hope is a Christian charity working to improve life for slum children and their families in eastern Uganda through free education, healthcare and welfare.

At present, it helps more than 450 children, as well as providing counselling and support for families.

"The school is giving children living in the slums of Uganda the chance of a better future," said Lisa.

"The work they do is incredible, and all funded by the support of others."

So far, the pair have already raised around £2,000 towards their trip, and received generous donations of supplies from Haverfordwest Rotary Club, which they will take with them.

On Sunday, June 12, Lisa will be abseiling down Pembroke Castle keep to raise extra cash, and on Monday, June 13, Lisa and Jazz will take part in a 'Soak the Teacher' event, which will see pupils pay to pelt the pair with wet sponges.

One of the founders of the Child of Hope school will also be visiting the Meads to talk to pupils about the charity's important work.

The pair have also planned several cinema nights in the school, and a 'medium night' with Karen Wilson, which took place last week.

"As you can imagine this is a very costly trip and we would love to be in a position to take various resources to the school and give a cash donation," said Lisa.

"This is an opportunity of a lifetime and a trip that will no doubt be a life changing experience.

"These children really need our help and support."

The pair will leave for Uganda on July 25. For more information, visit childofhopeuganda.org, or search 'Lisa&Jazz's Uganda mission' on Facebook.
