MILFORD Haven carnival has been given a £1,000 cash boost from Wales’ biggest housebuilder, Persimmon Homes.

Organisers of the carnival - Milford Haven Round Table - were awarded the cash as part of Persimmon Homes’ West Wales Community Champions scheme.

The event has around 6,000 people visit it each year and will be held on July 2 with a sport theme aimed at tapping into the excitement of the Olympics and Euro 2016.

Mark Johnson, chairman of the Round Table, said: “We have already raised funds through local businesses along with tenders from fairground and food providers to enable an action sports team to attend and perform on the day.

"It will be complemented by musical entertainment in the form of prominent local talent which adds to the sense of the occasion.

“The money from Persimmon Homes West Wales’ Community Champions scheme is very welcome and it secures the future of this fantastic event for a further year.”

The Community Champions scheme began last year, allowing charities and groups to apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.

Nationally Persimmon Homes donated a total of £750,000 across the UK in the first 12 months of programme.

Sharon Robinson, sales director for Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “ The event really brings the community of Milford Haven together and we are delighted to show our support for it once more.

“It is really well organised and a favourite among people in Pembrokeshire and we’re proud to continue our association with the organisers.

“As always it was a difficult decision to select our Community Champions but I would encourage any charity or organisation that missed out this time, even if they have won previously, to apply again.”
