Two engineering firms, Advance Door Engineering Ltd and by Shufflebottom Ltd, are due to appear at to Swansea Crown Court today (Friday) to face charges relating to the death of a contractor at Pembroke Dock’s Mustang Marine in June 2013.

An earlier hearing at Haverfordwest magistrates court heard that working through Advance Door Engineering Ltd, shutter door engineer Stephen John Greenaway, 50, was employed by Shufflebottom Ltd as a contractor to install roller shutter doors at the site.

Mr Greenaway, who lived in the Telford area, suffered multiple injuries after falling 60 feet from a “cherry picker” crane that swung suddenly after getting tangled in a chain fence.

Advance Door Engineering Ltd is charged with failing to select the most suitable equipment for use at height, failing to make a suitable assessment of health and safety risks to employees and failing to plan, manage and monitor construction of the roller shutter doors.

Shufflebottom Ltd is also charged with failing to select the most suitable equipment for use at height and failing to make a suitable assessment of health and safety risks to employees, as well as failing as principal contractor to take all reasonable steps to ensure the construction phase plan identified the risks to health and safety arising from installing the roller shutter doors.

The case has been sent to Swansea crown court and listed for a preliminary hearing for today, June 10.
