BOTH of Pembrokeshire’s MPs and the majority of its Assembly Members will be supporting a vote for the UK to remain in the EU.

MP Stephen Crabb said that within the EU, the UK gets the best of both worlds – full access to the single market without the extra rules that come from having to use the Euro.

“The fact that we have the best performing economy in the EU shows that our current membership whereby the UK has its own special relationship with the EU works well for us,” said Mr Crabb.

Prominent farmers in the county are in support of remaining due to the ability to trade tariff-free within the EU.

NFU president Meurig Raymond, who farms 3,400 acres in Pembrokeshire, said that the EU may impose import tariffs on farming products that the UK exports.

“If we come out of Europe, who knows how long it will take to renegotiate the trade deals between the UK and the EU. It could take two years, it could take seven years,” he said.

Assembly Members Paul Davies and Angela Burns accept that the EU is far from perfect but believe that the UK and Pembrokeshire would be better off inside.

MP Simon Hart, Assembly Member Eluned Morgan and the Welsh Bench of Bishops and have highlighted the divisive campaigning around immigration.

“Posters of winding columns of immigrants heading for the UK are as disgraceful now as they were when near identical images were used by the Nazis in the 1930s,” said Mr Hart.

Speaking in Haverfordwest recently, Eluned Morgan said: “The most recent figures available actually show around 289 international immigrants moved into Pembrokeshire between 2013 and 2014. You’ll know a lot of these people as your doctors, your nurses, your carers. They support our public services. They’re making a contribution.”
