PUPILS and staff at Hubberston School have raised more than £1,600 by hosting a Race for Life event.

On Thursday, June 23, runners of all ages completed 400-metre laps of the school grounds to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Dressed in red and pink, there were also lots of hats, painted faces, masks, and even a few funny moustaches.

"All pupils and staff were excited to be involved in the Race for Life and to help raise money to help people with cancer," said teacher Marc Stow.

The lower part of the school ran first, with some help from teachers and class 6 pupils.

After warming up to the "I'm a gummy bear song" they were off, each running around six laps.

Then it was the turn of the upper end of the school, joined by teachers, who took on 10 to 20 laps each, after a warm-up to Gangnam Style led by Mrs Scale.

Youngsters then all enjoyed squash and biscuits, and were presented with official medals.

"Everyone was exhausted but can’t wait to do the race again next year," said Mr Stow.

"We had fantastic support from friends and family and this made the event extra special."
