A Milford Haven man today (Thursday) learned how much a night out can cost when he was ordered to pay £2,000 in compensation to the man he attacked.

Grant James Reynolds, aged 20, of Brook Avenue, admitted assaulting Thomas Beynon causing him actual bodily harm.

Kevin Jones, prosecuting, told Swansea crown court how Mr Beynon had been socialising in the centre of Haverfordwest in the early hours of October 18 last year with friends who included Christopher Lewis.

Mr Lewis had known Reynolds, a farm labourer, from their school days and the two clashed inside Eddie’s nightclub.

Reynolds was asked to leave but returned soon afterwards and he was asked to leave a second time.

Mr Jones said there was a further incident involving Reynolds and Mr Lewis and doorstaff asked them all to leave, sending Mr Lewis in one direction and Reynolds and Mr Beynon in another.

Within a few seconds Reynolds punched Mr Beynon to his face, knocking him to the ground, and began kicking him as he lay on the floor.

Adrian Thomas, who had just finished working nearby, intervened and pulled Reynolds away.

Mr Beynon suffered a broken nose and cuts and lost a week at work.

Carina Hughes, representing Beynon, said the assault was completely out of character and said it was sad to see him in the dock.

Judge Michael Burr said that, mercifully, the injuries to Mr Beynon had not been as bad as they could have been.

But it had been an unpleasant and unjustifiable attack.

Reynolds was jailed for six months, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work for the community.

He was also ordered to pay £2,000 to Mr Beynon and a government surcharge of £80.
