MILFORD Haven town centre will be transformed into a world of pure imagination next month, as the town’s traders celebrate the wacky world of Roald Dahl.

Willy Wonka, Oompa Loompas and the BFG will be among the much-loved characters helping celebrate what would have been the literary giant’s 100th birthday.

On Tuesday, September 13, Charles Street will be transformed into a veritable chocolate factory of fun, with roly poly birds and giant peaches decorating shop windows.

Organised by Value Independence, the plans are part of events scheduled to take place all over Wales, and are intended to promote the town and encourage tourists and locals alike into shopping areas.

“One of the goals for the company is to give the clients an active role in the community,” a spokesman for Value Independence said.

“We run a book club on Wednesday mornings and Roald Dahl books have always been a great favourite.

“By taking part, the clients have improved their communication skills and confidence by going out and speaking to the businesses, and the response has been both extremely welcoming and overwhelming.”

More than 20 stores have signed up so far, and an exhibition on Roald Dahl’s life, including artwork created by its clients, will be held at Value Independence.

A treasure hunt will also run between September 9 and 18 at Value Independence, Cast and Craft, Freckle and Potter Antiques and The Window.

Entry is £5, with a cash prize for the winner, and will be raising money for a trip for Value Independence clients, some much-needed specialist equipment, and for Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity.

There are also plans for a street market and raffle.
