MILFORD Haven was transformed into a world of pure imagination this week, as part of celebrations for what would have been Roald Dahl's 100th birthday.

Whizzpopping wonders brightened up shop windows, with Oompa Loompas, fantastic foxes and a big friendly giant bringing Charles Street to life.

More than 100 kiddles from the Meads School took a tasty trip to the town centre, gobbling up chocolate coins at Snapdragon sweet shop and mouth-watering milkshakes at Milford Perk diner.

Lynne Turner, of Snapdragon, also handed out 'golden tickets' and prizes to the groups, many of whom were dressed in fancy dress finery for the occasion.

"We were thrilled to host the children - they loved our Willy Wonka window display, and their excitement for the day was palpable," she said.

The celebrations continued at Value Independence, where the clients dressed up as their favourite characters to show off their Dahl-inspired artwork to the public.

The community interest company, which supports people to gain new skills, improve confidence and become more independent, is also running a town treasure hunt, with £50 on offer for the winner.

A multi-colour makeover of the memorial gardens on Hamilton Terrace - thanks to the Haverfordwest Yarn Bombers - marks the starting point, and clues can be found in various shops in the town centre.

The hunt is £5 to take part in, and all profits will be shared between the Roald Dahl Marvellous Children's Charity and a trip out for Value Independence clients.

Just pop into Value Independence, Freckle and Potter, Treasure Trove, Snapdragon or The Window to sign up.

A street market also took place in Charles Street to mark the occasion.
