MUSIC-lovers at the 15th annual Milford Haven Music Festival went home with tired arms and legs, after the exceptionally high standard of music earned performers several standing ovations.

The festivities began with a piano recital by Jocelyn Freeman, who presented an impressive interpretation of Ballade No 2 by Liszt.

On Saturday one of the best mixed choirs in Wales - Noteworthy from Maesteg - made their festival debut, directed by Ryan Wood.

Their repertoire included Benedictus - by festival patron Sir Karl Jenkins - performed with cellist Stewart Roberts, and Welsh favourites Gwahoddiad and Builth.

The sublime voice of baritone Gary Griffiths thrilled the audience by his rendition of two arias and Eli’s prayer.

He was joined by soprano Adele O’Neill who gave a sparkling performance of Alleluia Exsultate.

The second half was devoted to Faure’s Requiem with organist Huw Tregelles Williams.

The festival ended with a masterclass for young local cellists including Rhianna Wade, Rhys Lewis, James Horton and Nia Lewis directed by Rosie Biss principal cellist with Welsh National Opera Orchestra.

The recital ended with a superb performance of Beethoven’s Sonata in G minor accompanied by Robin Green (Cardiff) on piano, which brought the festival to a triumphant standing ovation close.
